Efficacy of narrowband UVB phototherapy in erythema dyschromicum perstans treatment: case reports.

چکیده
Ashy dermatosis or erythema dyschromicum perstans (EDP) is a typically asymptomatic disease of unknown origin that causes symmetrical gray spots on the trunk and extremities (1). It was first described by Ramirez in 1957 (2). Patients show oval, irregular, or polycyclic gray macules with erythematous, inflammatory borders (3). There is no single established therapy for EDP. The aim of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of narrowband UVB (nbUVB) phototherapy for the treatment of EDP. We present two women, 53 and 59 years old, with a one-year history of progressive cutaneous pigmentary changes, were admitted to our Department. Initially, lesions presented as asymptomatic blue gray macules on the trunk, which slowly spread to her extremities. Both patients had a history of thyroid disease: the first presented with multiple nodules in both thyroid lobes, compatible with a diagnosis of multinodular goitre; the second had autoimmune thyroiditis. Physical examination revealed the presence of multiple bluish-gray macules with slight erythematous borders, non-pruriginous, on the trunk, abdomen, and extremities; the largest was 2 cm in diameter (Figure 1). Before coming to our Department, both patients had received topical corticosteroid therapy (dexossimetazone 0.25%, twice a day) for 2 months, without any improvement.

Phototherapy-induced erythema in patients with psoriasis and obesity treated with narrowband UVB phototherapy.
Psoriasis is more common among patients with obesity. These patients tend to have more severe psoriasis. Therefore, a higher proportion of them require intensive treatment modalities such as phototherapy, but with not always dose adjustment. We report a phototherapy-induced erythema in patient with psoriasis and obesity treated with narrowband UVB phototherapy. Figure 1: Erythema located on the...
متن کاملA randomized comparison of selective broadband UVB and narrowband UVB in the treatment of psoriasis.
UVB is widely used to treat psoriasis. Conventional broadband UVB lamps are less effective than narrowband UVB lamps, which have an emission peak at 311 nm. The long-term safety of narrowband UVB phototherapy is uncertain. "Selective" broadband UVB lamps, which have little emission <290 nm, are also available, but have not been adequately compared to narrowband UVB lamps. We performed a randomi...

Background. Many studies, on light-skinned patients, suggested narrowband-UVB to be effective and safe for the treatment of early stage cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Objectives. To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of narrowband-UVB in treatment of early stage cutaneous T-cell lymphoma in patients with skin phototypes III, IV, and V. Methods. A total of 27 patients with the diagnosis of early...
متن کاملTargeted broadband ultraviolet b phototherapy produces similar responses to targeted narrowband ultraviolet B phototherapy for vitiligo: a randomized, double-blind study.
UNLABELLED Narrowband ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy, with a 308-nm xenon chloride excimer laser, and targeted UVB phototherapy have produced encouraging therapeutic results for vitiligo. However, very few studies employing broadband UVB exist. Moreover, there has been no direct comparison study between broadband UVB and NB-UVB for the treatment of vitiligo. The aims of this study were to ...
متن کاملTHERAPY Narrowband UVB and psoralen-UVA in the treatment of early-stage mycosis fungoides: A retrospective study
Background: Treatment of early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) consists of topical steroids, phototherapy (UVB), photochemotherapy (psoralen plus UVA [PUVA]), topical nitrogen mustard, or total skin electronbeam irradiation. It has been reported that the same effective UVB dose is safer than PUVA regarding carcinogenicity and produces fewer side effects. Narrowband UVB (311 nm) results in less irr...
